A Travel Guide to Singapore
Singapore may not instantly spring to mind as a long haul holiday destination for many. The image of a bustling eastern city does not always appeal to the average holiday maker. But as an overall destination Singapore holds it own and is definitely one to add to the "places I want to visit" list.
Firstly, there`s the culture. Singapore is vibrant, busy and ever changing. The tiny city state has become a hub for industry and commerce, but has also increased its tourist opportunities to match.
There is always a wide variety of accommodation on offer in Singapore from lavish hotels to the backpacker hostels. There are even a growing number of private rentals to be had for those prepared to devote some web time to their search.
The good news is that you can stay in Singapore for up to fourteen days without a visa, any longer and you will need to apply to the countries embassy services for permission. Chiangi is Singapore`s airport and when you land you will find yourself eight hours ahead of GMT. The transport options out of Chiangi airport are as comprehensive as you will find anywhere in the world. Taxis can be found outside all the Terminal buildings but can also be booked through the destination hotel. A public bus service runs from Terminals 1,2 and 3 and the train service operates below Terminals 1 and 2. The public transports all take you into the city centre. For the less adventurous there are also Airport shuttles that can be booked from the airport website and the almost compulsory array of car rental options on site. The airport also offers a Ground Transport Desk which will help you with any queries or problems you have on arrival.
Once you arrive at the hotel you will be amazed at how much there actually is to do in this little country.
Singapore Weather
Singapore has a tropical climate. The island is warm and humid all year round, with only slight variations between the average maximum of 31 degrees Celsius and minimum of 23 degrees Celsius. Some of the highlights are:
